Dental Care for the Whole Family

At Willow Bend Dental, it is our goal to provide optimal dental health for every member of your family, and to treat each person as if they belonged to our own family. Because building a foundation of trust is vital to the overall mission of Willow Bend Dental, your individual dental needs and concerns will be personally addressed by Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon.

We understand how seeing a dentist may not be the favorite activity of some patients, and so we constantly review how we might provide a more relaxing and pleasant experience. As well, we feel it is our part to provide the most up to date information on dental care, so you are able to make your own informed decisions on any recommended treatment plans.

Ongoing general dentistry is the foundation for good oral health. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you visit your family dentist for a checkup at least twice each year. Willow Bend Dental works closely with your insurance company or PPO to make sure that you receive the maximum benefits from your dental plan. We will work with you to develop a customized dental hygiene program, consisting of dental examination (soft tissue examination and 6 point Periodontal examination), teeth cleaning, x-rays, and the use of other diagnostic equipment or procedures to uncover, prevent or treat problems in the earliest stages, well before they progress. We will be here to remind you about the advantages of preventing dental disease, including routine cleanings, flossing, and fluoride applications. A variety of restorative dental procedures may be appropriately recommended to help prevent or treat decay or disease of the teeth, mouth, gums and tongue, as well as improve the overall quality of your life and build self-esteem.

Crowns (caps)

Crowns or "caps" are traditional and commonly used restorations in dentistry today. Because the enamel has to be completely removed for a crown or "cap", the stronger and more conservative onlay or porcelain veneer restoration is generally the treatment of choice whenever possible. However, when teeth are badly broken, extensively decayed, or simply in need of replacing existing caps, crowns are the treatment of choice. Crowns can be made of all porcelain, porcelain fused to gold, porcelain fused to zirconium, or all gold. The best crown material is often determined by an individual's bite and esthetic considerations.

Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon have extensive training and experience in crown placement and have successfully placed thousands of these restorations since 1986. Like our porcelain veneers, these restorations are very durable and resistant to stain. To view examples of our work, please visit our photo gallery . Composite (Tooth Colored) Fillings

Our office does not offer mercury silver fillings. Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon believe that tooth colored composite fillings are a stronger and healthier choice for our patients. The tooth colored material is metal free and made from plastic resin. They are very durable, tissue compatible, kind to the opposing teeth, and stain resistant. Tooth colored fillings allow us to preserve the greatest amount of natural tooth enamel, and perhaps more importantly, they are made from inert non-toxic ingredients.

Preventive and Hygiene Services

Comprehensive preventive care includes far more than cleanings, hygiene instructions, and check-ups. During your visits to our office, we perform a thorough assessment of your oral health. Healthy habits are foundational to keeping your teeth for a lifetime...and healthy teeth and surrounding tissues are foundational to great overall health. Plus, teeth, gums, and bone around the teeth need to be healthy and clean in order for our dentistry to be successful! The professionals at Willow Bend Dental are devoted to the prevention of gum disease in your lifetime, and we offer a full array of hygiene and non-surgical Periodontal services to help insure our success. If Periodontal disease is detected, we will recommend action to treat this disease aggressively.

Periodontal disease is a disease of the gums that can also affect the bone. Periodontal disease has been called the silent killer for many years in dentistry, and because it can be painless and asymptomatic, patients sometimes don't even realize they have it. Some of the signs and symptoms of Periodontal disease are swollen, red, bleeding, receding or tender gums. Bad breath can also come from the gums. We believe in early diagnosis and treatment of this problem because once bone loss has occurred, we can't get it back, and very often teeth are compromised or even lost. If there are areas of concern, we offer you the latest in Periodontal therapy techniques. We also will not hesitate to refer you to a periodontist should the need arise.

Our in-house dental hygiene services include:

  • Regular professional cleanings
  • Patient education, including oral hygiene instructions
  • Oral cancer screening
  • Blood pressure screening
  • Periodontal charting
  • X-rays
  • Periodontal therapy

  • Irrigation with antimicrobial agents
  • Sensitive teeth treatment
  • Fluorosis and other stain removal
  • Sealants
  • Local antibiotic therapy
  • Bad breath (Halitosis) treatment
  • Referral to a periodontist if necessary
  • Ulcers and fever blister treatment

If you are concerned about the condition of your gums or have questions about our hygiene or Periodontal services, please contact our Plano, Texas office for more information.

Root Canal

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form. If the infection is caught early enough, the procedure is generally painless and can be completed in one visit.

"Root canal" is the term used to describe the natural cavity within the center of the tooth. The pulp or pulp chamber is the soft area within the root canal. The tooth's nerve lies within the root canal. A tooth's nerve is not vitally important to a tooth's health and function after the tooth has emerged through the gums. Its only function is sensory to provide the sensation of hot or cold. The presence or absence of a nerve will not affect the day-to-day functioning of the tooth.

Root Canal Treatment

Once a tooth has had a root canal, the access hole made during the procedure has to be filled. If the hole is small enough, this can be done with a white bonded filling. If a large portion of the tooth structure is missing, the tooth needs to be secured with a porcelain crown or "cap". Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon have advanced training in root canal therapy and the restorative procedures to complete these procedures all in one location.

If you have questions about root canals, please contact our Plano, Texas office for more information.

Tooth Extractions

There are many reasons why teeth need to be removed, and thanks to Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon's extensive surgical training they are both highly skilled in the removal of unwanted teeth. Although not mandatory, oral sedation is recommended. It is our goal at Willow Bend Dental that your extraction be as simple and painless as possible. For more information about extractions, please contact us for more information.

Some of the common reasons for tooth extractions:

  • The tooth is simply not repairable, or may be impractical to repair under the circumstances. This includes teeth that are decayed below the gum line, or teeth that have lost too much bone due to gum disease.
  • Removal of the tooth may be a matter of health. Removing wisdom teeth often fall into this category, as do teeth associated with cysts or infections, and any teeth that compromise the patient's oral health if left in place
  • Teeth are frequently removed because they are crowded and their removal would create the space necessary to allow for proper spacing. Orthodontists occasionally request extractions for just this reason. Some front teeth are so crowded that removal is the obvious choice over straightening, and then the teeth are replaced with implants, bridges, or removable partials.

Tooth Replacement

A missing tooth is the most obvious dental malformation, and often presents the dentist's biggest technical challenge. Missing teeth can also undermine a person's self-confidence and quality of life. Not only can missing teeth compromise eating habits, speech and appearance, the condition can also lead to bone loss in the jaw and the abnormal shifting of the other teeth as well as bite problems. Missing teeth often causes the look of premature aging.

Dr. Beougher and Dr. Simon have had great success in replacing missing teeth with dental implants, bridges, dentures, or partial dentures. Using the latest advanced materials and tissue management techniques, we are able to provide the service that is most appropriate for you.

Dental implants

Dental implants have become our favored way to replace missing teeth whenever possible. Acting as a substitute tooth root, implants bond with the bone to form a stable foundation for permanent replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The dental implant actually helps preserve the bone by providing the stimulation that was previously provided by natural tooth roots. This helps maintain the integrity of facial structures.

There are numerous advantages of dental implant treatment over other traditional treatment options. For instance, it is not necessary to grind down the adjacent teeth for a bridge, or secure a partial denture to them with clasps that can eventually loosen the natural teeth. By utilizing dental implants, patients may be spared the many problems associated with traditional false teeth.

Bridges

Bridges are another treatment option when replacing missing teeth. Choosing the best treatment option depends upon the condition of the teeth adjacent to the space, bone condition, gum appearance, esthetic concerns, prognosis of the restoration, age of the patient, and budget considerations.

Dentures & Partial Dentures

Dentures and Partial Dentures are another common and less expensive method to replace missing teeth. One of our passions is creating customized dentures and partials that are comfortable, functional, and esthetically pleasing. Our special training in new denture technology and smile design has made it possible for our patients to experience the best of both worlds - comfort and cosmetics. We also offer implant-supported dentures.

If you have questions about tooth replacement, dental implants, or dentures please contact our Plano, Texas office for more information.
